On Saturday at Thredbo Ski Resort in New South Wales, a chair on the Kosciuszko chairlift detached after what the resort described as an unexpected gust of wind. The Kosciuszko is Australia’s longest ski lift. Three snowboarders in their twenties—two women and one man—fell several metres onto the snow near Eagles Nest and suffered facial and back injuries. Resort staff and emergency responders attended the scene; the incident has been described by Thredbo as isolated and unusual.

Google plans to release a redesigned Fitbit app this fall that reorganizes the interface into three main tabs: "Today," "Coach," and "You." The refreshed app will display daily health statistics, offer motivational and coaching content, and present goal overviews and trends. Google says the update will improve how fitness data is presented and protected, and it appears visually aligned with leaked looks of the upcoming Pixel Watch 2 and possibly the Pixel 8 phones.

Scottish nationalists argue that Scotland shares more in common with Nordic countries than with the rest of the United Kingdom. A YouGov poll found that between 52% and 61% of prospective SNP voters say Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway or Sweden are somewhat similar to Scotland, while only 31% of that group say England is similar. Those views are often cited to support calls for closer social and political alignment with Scandinavian models.

Scientists presented results from the OPERA study showing artificial intelligence can analyze heart ultrasound scans in about one minute, compared with roughly 30 minutes for trained human experts. The project, led by the University of Glasgow in partnership with AstraZeneca and NHS trusts including Greater Glasgow & Clyde and the Golden Jubilee, demonstrated the AI’s ability to interpret echocardiograms quickly and consistently during a presentation at the European Society of Cardiology conference in Amsterdam.
